In 1993, Irgens was engaged to design and develop corporate offices for this Fox Valley health system and its health insurance subsidiary. The first challenge involved a confidential site search that would control enough land to allow for future expansion. The initial project, a 43,000 square foot building, served United Health until 1997 when strong growth prompted a 35,000 square foot expansion to the original facility. The challenge the second time around was that the project needed to proceed without interrupting the daily activity in the original part of the building. Irgens team members corresponded daily with United Health leadership over the five-month accelerated construction schedule, a routine that ensured timely decisions, a mininum of surprises and – five months later – an expanded facility ready for occupancy. The expansion came in under budget with minimal disruption to United Health’s daily business activities.
“Despite our tight schedule, Irgens was able to give us not only the right price for our building, but also a guaranteed completion date.”
